Reference Manager Usage

GENCARE: Journal of Health Empowerment and Community Innovation requires manuscripts to use the American Psychological Association (APA) 7th Edition style for in-text citations and reference lists.

Authors are required to prepare and manage references using software such as Mendeley, Zotero, EndNote, or an equivalent reference manager, in accordance with GENCARE's Author Guidelines. The use of software does not remove the authors' responsibility to check imported metadata and the final reference list.

References must be accurate, relevant, traceable, and directly support the scientific rationale, identified community needs, intervention or empowerment strategy, evaluation methods, findings, and discussion. This guidance is particularly relevant to community-based nursing and midwifery education and health empowerment programs within GENCARE's focus and scope.

Reference Requirements

  • At least 20 references in each manuscript.
  • At least 85% of the references must be journal articles; for a manuscript with exactly 20 references, at least 17 must be journal articles.
  • References published within the previous 10 years are preferred, while older seminal sources may be used when scientifically necessary.
  • Prioritize relevant peer-reviewed journal articles, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and evidence-based guidelines.
  • Include each source's DOI in the format https://doi.org/... when available; do not invent a DOI.
  • Include an appropriate stable URL when required by APA 7 and no DOI is available.
  • Use credible institutional reports, books, and other primary sources where relevant; do not add unrelated citations merely to meet a quota.

References must align with the actual content of the manuscript. Citation manipulation, fabricated references, and citations selected solely to inflate journal or author metrics are prohibited.

Reference Accuracy and Verification

Before submission, authors must verify original source records, preferably using the publisher's website, the journal's article page, an appropriate scholarly database, or the DOI resolver. Particular attention must be paid to:

  • Complete author names and their published order
  • Year of publication and exact title
  • Journal or book title, volume, issue, and page range or article number
  • Publisher or institutional information when applicable
  • Correct, functional DOI or relevant URL
  • Consistency between every in-text citation and the reference list

References suggested, generated, or formatted using artificial intelligence must be checked against the original publications. AI-generated bibliographic details must never be accepted without verification.

In-Text Citations (APA 7)

Use the author-date system. For works by three or more authors, use the first author's surname followed by et al. from the first citation, unless more detail is required to distinguish sources.

  • One author: (Suryani, 2019); narrative: Suryani (2019)
  • Two authors: (Arso Wibowo & Adianti, 2021); narrative: Arso Wibowo and Adianti (2021)
  • Three or more authors: (Sumiari et al., 2021); narrative: Sumiari et al. (2021)
  • Direct quotation: include a page number or another appropriate locator, for example (Sumiari et al., 2021, p. 127) when quoting from that page.

In a reference-list entry, give the names of all authors when there are 1–20 authors. For 21 or more authors, provide the first 19 names, an ellipsis, and the final author, without an ampersand before that final author. This rule does not change the use of et al. in in-text citations.

For sources designed to change over time and without archived versions, include a retrieval date where APA 7 requires it. A webpage URL is not a substitute for a DOI when a DOI exists.

Paper in published proceedings: Follow the appropriate edited-book chapter or journal-article format, depending on how the proceedings were published.

Final Reference Check

  • Every in-text citation has a corresponding reference-list entry, and every reference-list entry is cited in the text.
  • Author names, dates, titles, journal details, DOIs, and URLs have been checked against the original sources.
  • All references are formatted consistently in APA 7th Edition and presented in alphabetical order.
  • The reference list satisfies the minimum number, journal-article proportion, and recency preferences.
  • No fabricated, misleading, untraceable, irrelevant, or AI-hallucinated references are included.

Penggunaan Pengelola Referensi (Reference Manager)

Seluruh naskah yang dikirimkan ke GENCARE: Journal of Health Empowerment and Community Innovation wajib menggunakan gaya sitasi American Psychological Association (APA) edisi ke-7, baik pada sitasi dalam teks maupun daftar pustaka.

Penulis diwajibkan menyusun dan mengelola referensi menggunakan perangkat seperti Mendeley, Zotero, EndNote, atau pengelola referensi yang setara, sesuai dengan Panduan Penulis GENCARE. Penggunaan perangkat lunak tidak menghilangkan tanggung jawab penulis untuk memeriksa metadata yang diimpor dan hasil akhir daftar pustaka.

Referensi harus akurat, relevan, dapat ditelusuri, dan mendukung landasan ilmiah, kebutuhan masyarakat atau mitra yang teridentifikasi, strategi intervensi atau pemberdayaan, metode evaluasi, hasil, serta pembahasan. Panduan ini terutama berlaku bagi program pendidikan kesehatan berbasis masyarakat pada bidang keperawatan, kebidanan, dan pemberdayaan kesehatan yang sesuai dengan fokus dan ruang lingkup GENCARE.

Persyaratan Referensi

  • Setiap naskah memuat sekurang-kurangnya 20 referensi.
  • Minimal 85% referensi harus berupa artikel jurnal; jika terdapat tepat 20 referensi, maka sekurang-kurangnya 17 harus berupa artikel jurnal.
  • Referensi terbitan 10 tahun terakhir diutamakan; rujukan klasik yang mendasar dapat digunakan jika secara ilmiah diperlukan.
  • Prioritaskan artikel jurnal yang relevan dan melalui penelaahan sejawat, tinjauan sistematis, meta-analisis, serta pedoman berbasis bukti.
  • Cantumkan DOI dalam format https://doi.org/... jika tersedia; penulis dilarang membuat DOI yang tidak ada.
  • Cantumkan URL yang stabil apabila sesuai dengan ketentuan APA 7 dan tidak terdapat DOI.
  • Gunakan laporan institusi, buku, serta sumber primer kredibel lainnya apabila relevan; jangan menambahkan sitasi tidak relevan semata-mata untuk memenuhi jumlah rujukan.

Referensi wajib sesuai dengan substansi artikel. Manipulasi sitasi, referensi fiktif, dan penambahan sitasi semata-mata untuk meningkatkan indikator jurnal atau penulis tidak diperbolehkan.

Akurasi dan Verifikasi Referensi

Sebelum pengiriman naskah, penulis wajib memeriksa sumber asli melalui laman penerbit, laman artikel jurnal, basis data ilmiah yang sesuai, atau sistem penelusuran DOI. Pemeriksaan meliputi:

  • Nama penulis secara lengkap dan urutannya sesuai publikasi asli
  • Tahun terbit dan judul yang tepat
  • Nama jurnal atau buku, volume, nomor, halaman, atau nomor artikel
  • Informasi penerbit atau institusi apabila relevan
  • DOI yang benar dan dapat diakses atau URL yang sesuai
  • Kesesuaian setiap sitasi dalam teks dengan daftar pustaka

Seluruh referensi yang disarankan, dihasilkan, atau diformat oleh kecerdasan buatan harus diperiksa menggunakan publikasi aslinya. Informasi bibliografi dari AI tidak boleh langsung diterima tanpa verifikasi.

Sitasi dalam Teks (APA 7)

Gunakan sistem penulis–tahun. Untuk karya dengan tiga penulis atau lebih, gunakan nama keluarga penulis pertama diikuti et al. sejak sitasi pertama, kecuali diperlukan pembedaan antarsumber.

  • Satu penulis: (Suryani, 2019); naratif: Suryani (2019)
  • Dua penulis: (Arso Wibowo & Adianti, 2021); naratif: Arso Wibowo dan Adianti (2021)
  • Tiga penulis atau lebih: (Sumiari et al., 2021); naratif: Sumiari et al. (2021)
  • Kutipan langsung: cantumkan nomor halaman atau penanda lokasi yang sesuai, misalnya (Sumiari et al., 2021, p. 127) apabila kutipan memang berasal dari halaman tersebut.

Dalam daftar pustaka, cantumkan semua nama penulis apabila terdapat 1–20 penulis. Jika terdapat 21 penulis atau lebih, cantumkan 19 penulis pertama, tanda elipsis, dan nama penulis terakhir tanpa simbol ampersand sebelum nama terakhir. Ketentuan ini berbeda dari penggunaan et al. pada sitasi dalam teks.

  • Seluruh sitasi dalam teks terdapat pada daftar pustaka dan seluruh referensi pada daftar pustaka disitasi dalam teks.
  • Nama penulis, tahun, judul, data jurnal, DOI, dan URL telah dibandingkan dengan sumber asli.
  • Seluruh referensi mengikuti APA edisi ke-7 secara konsisten dan diurutkan secara alfabetis.
  • Jumlah referensi, proporsi artikel jurnal, dan preferensi kebaruan telah dipenuhi.
  • Tidak terdapat referensi fiktif, menyesatkan, tidak dapat ditelusuri, tidak relevan, atau dihasilkan AI tanpa verifikasi.
