Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) Policy

Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) and AI-assisted tools (such as ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, and similar technologies) present both opportunities and challenges in scholarly writing and publishing. Genius Journal of Medical Surgical Nursing (GJMSN) is committed to maintaining transparency, academic integrity, confidentiality, and accountability in all publications. Accordingly, the journal adopts the following policy regarding the responsible use of generative AI technologies.

Authorship

Generative AI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors of a manuscript. Authorship is limited to individuals who have made substantial intellectual contributions to the conception, design, execution, analysis, or interpretation of the study. AI systems are not capable of assuming responsibility for the accuracy, integrity, and accountability required of authors.

Permitted Use by Authors

Authors may use GenAI tools only for limited and supportive purposes, including:

  • Improving language, grammar, and readability

  • Assisting with structural organization of the manuscript

  • Supporting formatting or editorial tasks

GenAI tools must not replace scientific reasoning, data analysis, interpretation of results, or critical intellectual contributions. Authors remain fully responsible for verifying the accuracy and appropriateness of any AI-assisted content included in the manuscript prior to submission.

Disclosure Requirement

Any use of GenAI tools during manuscript preparation must be clearly and transparently disclosed. Authors should describe the nature and extent of AI use in the Acknowledgments or Methods section of the manuscript.

Failure to disclose significant AI assistance may be considered a violation of the journal’s publication ethics and research integrity standards.

Responsibilities of Reviewers

Reviewers must not upload submitted manuscripts or any part of the manuscript to public or commercial AI tools. Doing so may compromise the confidentiality, intellectual property, and originality of the submitted work.

All materials involved in the peer-review process are confidential and must not be used to train AI systems or shared with external platforms.

Responsibilities of Editors

Editors are required to maintain strict confidentiality regarding submitted manuscripts and associated materials. Editors must not use AI tools in ways that could compromise manuscript confidentiality, intellectual property, or the integrity of the editorial process.

Editorial decisions must always be based on independent human academic judgment.

Accountability

The use of generative AI tools does not remove ethical responsibility from the authors. Authors remain fully accountable for:

  • The accuracy and integrity of all data and information presented

  • The originality of the manuscript

  • Proper citation and acknowledgment of sources

  • Compliance with ethical standards in scholarly publishing

Monitoring and Policy Updates

Given the rapid development of artificial intelligence technologies, Genius Journal of Medical Surgical Nursing (GJMSN) will periodically review and update this policy to remain aligned with emerging international standards and best practices in scholarly publishing.
